Snarestone Church

Welcome to St Bartholomew's
serving the community of Snarestone

Services:

We usually have our service 10am on the 1st Sunday of the month, with occasional extras for the festivals or special events. Please check the Calendar section of this website to check days / times. We usually take turn with Norton Church to host the Christmas Eve midnight service.
Our regular monthly service has a small, committed congregation, however our occasional lay-led informal services, which villagers also sometimes help lead, bring many more attendees.

Activities:

Snarestone is a small village. The only community rooms in the village are the school hall & St Bartholmew’s, so we sometimes also host some village activities. Over the last year or so our activities have included Songs of Praise,  Harvest Supper, pudding evening, Mothering Sunday special, Easter Celebration, Coronation Breakfast, Coffee Morning in church & Christmas Carol service. There is a very well supported Coffee Morning each 1st Wednesday of the month, held in homes around the village, which brings villagers together and supports church funds.

Village Setting:

We have a canal complete with pub (the Globe), a CofE Primary school, and a church.  Another pub (the Old Crown) lies about half a mile outside the village.  We also have thriving allotments, and a traditional village blacksmith.  A high proportion of residents are farmers or connected with farming. The canal is popular with holiday-makers on narrow boats.

The village is characterised by a strong community spirit and high level of involvement. There are an active Parish Council, Allotment Society, Gardening Club and Pantomime Society, whose yearly production in February is one of the highlights of the village year. There is a village Tote committee, which every year organises a Christmas party for the old people and children, and a summer mystery trip to the seaside, which are always very well-supported. The traditional Easter Duck Race also attracts large crowds! The Harvest Supper in the church complete with variety show is a popular local night out each October.

Church Building:

Although Snarestone was known to have its own Vicar way back in the 1200s, the current church was built in 1752 and enlarged in 1834. In 2001 the pews were removed, carpet and modern chairs were installed, and the church rewired, then in 2013 a kitchen servery and toilet facilities were added to enable us to use the church more effectively as a community centre for the village.
